Computer Courses

The Computer Class Program was launched in the fall of 2003 by EBIRS. The aim of the program is to assist adults affected by acquired brain injury through the use of pre-determined computer applications, programs, and functions. to become skilled at computer applications, programs and management of Microsoft Office. We offer courses to individuals with a variety of skill levels.

Computer skills are helpful to people with brain injury in order to compensate for challenges in memory and organization. Internet and e-mail skills help people stay connected with their community and the larger world, even when mobility is a barrier. The computer skills taught are useful in acquiring and maintaining basic skills, independence and interdependence within the community. The skills learned will promote a sense of connectedness to the community and empowerment that is essential to overall mental and emotional well-being

The course size is maximum of 5 students and instructed by volunteers. Each class is 2 hours, held once a week for 4 weeks; the courses run between September and June with a few weeks off in between for assessments.

To promote the sustainability of the Computer Program, a small fee of $20.00 is charged. The income from the program assists EBIRS in defraying volunteer expenses, software, upgrades for the computers used in class and miscellaneous supplies.
